Smoke And Roses: A Victorian Pastime

$18.00

Based on research into the Victorian Language of Flowers and lavishly illustrated in 41 cards, this clever deck does double duty as a card game and personal oracle deck. In the classic parlor game, each player picks seven cards from the deck. Studying their cards, the player chooses one and places it face-down in the center of the table. They proceed to tell a story giving a sense of what the flower means. For example, if a player pulled the Orange Lily card, they could tell this story: "A rake attempted to lift my skirt and, when I rebuffed him, stole a kiss at the ball. The next time I saw him, I presented this flower and turned my back on him. I hope I shall never see him again." The group then attempts to guess which flower it is. It makes for a fine vintage evening of laughter. Used as an oracle deck, these beautifully illustrated cards are just the thing for calming the mind, thinking through issues, and convincing yourself to stop and smell the flowers. Including a card for 'the answer is yes' and 'the answer is no', it is a wonderfully direct and clarifying oracle.
